Tow/Storage Facility Junk Car Database
- Act 435 of the 2009 Regular Legislative Session changed the requirements relating to the junk vehicle process as outline in R.S.32:1728.2. Effective July 1, 2010, all Louisiana Tow/Storage Companies will be required to make application via the Office of Motor Vehicle Tow/Storage Facility Junk Car Database prior to disposing of any junk vehicle.
- Prior to requesting permission to dispose of a junk vehicle all required documentation must be obtained.
- Permission cannot be requested until 30 days from the date the notice was mailed.
- The vehicle CANNOT be disposed of until an electronic permission is received from the Office of Motor Vehicles. Permission to dispose of the vehicle will be returned within 10 business days.
Once the vehicle is transferred to a secondary metal processor or licensed automotive dismantler a receipt must be completed via the Tow/Storage Facility Junk Car Database and maintained in your files for auditing purposes along with all other required documentation.
